The Summer of #winning continues....

And before anyone thinks it, I am not referring in any way to #C.Sheen....

But this has been a pretty darn good summer for me and contests, especially if they are announced in some way on Twitter.

You see it all started with the NASATweetup, I entered, and I won. Not that it was a contest so much as a random drawing of the 5,500 people that entered, and I was one of the lucky 150 people to be chosen to go see the final launch of the space shuttle program.

Then a week or so later I was part of a #gno (girls night out) on Twitter sponsored by #UniversalOrando and I won four two day passes to Universal Studios Orlando.

Next I won 2 tickets from Hunts Brother's Pizza Racing to go to the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races in Pocono. I was honest with the woman when she called and told her that I would not be able to attend, and asked her to please call the next winner. (ya know because I didn't want that Karma fairy to bite me in the behind).

Then in late July, DJ and I went to David Ragan Ford to meet David Ragan (that I first read about on Twitter, then heard about it on the local radio station). While we were there, DJ won tickets to the dirt track in Dublin for that evening to watch David Ragan run the modified race that evening.

That night at the dirt track DJ and I bought raffle tickets for a chance to win several prizes, and wouldn't you know it, we won. We won a gift basket that had t-shirts from the different people racing that night, 2 tickets to go back to the races, and a couple of gift certificates to local BBQ places.

Plus that same night, DJ answered the kids trivia question correctly and won a box set from 1991 of racing cards.

Somewhere in there I did a #timeforteachers chat on Twitter and won a #timetorelax package from that. (I am not sure what all that entails as it hasn't arrived yet, but I know I won).

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I correctly guessed the winner of the Michigan NASCAR race the other week, and by random draw I won a garage tour from Atlanta Motorspeedway for this coming Saturday.

Next I won a signed Jimmie Johnson Sticker and a diecast (I think that's right at least).

Then two days ago I found out that I have been selected to be part of a hula hoop contest  sponsored by Papa Johns and Atlanta Motorspeedway which gets me 2 tickets to Sunday's race.

Tonight.... yes tonight, I found out that I won tickets to an upcoming Braves game from Georgia Tourism, all for uploading a picture of DJ with Brooks Conrad from the game we went to with the ASU alumni association, Georgia chapter.

In there here and there I have won a couple of dollars on the lottery, but nothing too remarkable. I would probably have to play more often than I do to really have a chance to win. But wouldn't that be nice?

  • Which time slot will you be able to attend 8 a.m. to noon, noon to 4 p.m., 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or all day (or at least most of the day)?
We'll be shooting different shots at different attractions at different times during the day.  All attractions will not be open all day, though there will be something to do at all times during the day.  The schedule of the day depends on the camera crew.  Activities include zip lines, Tiny Town, train rides, hay rides, paddle boats, pedal carts and more.  There is no charge for this experience - enjoy The Rock Ranch attractions (even the zip lines) for free while we are shooting.  Lunch will be provided. DLCRA programming has added a new activity/program for senior citizens ages 55 & older - Senior Classic Movie Night.  The 1st movie will be shown at Theatre Dublin (downtown) on Tuesday, August 23rd at 7:00pm.  The cost is $1.00 per person.  If successful, we will do one movie per month.  Selected movies will be from the 1940's and later and will be dependent on availability in DVD format.  I will know by Friday what this month's movie will be - hopefully a Marilyn Monroe title.
Everybody has senior citizens in their circle of family & friends.  Please tell them about this opportunity designed as a night out especially for them and only for $1.
Please let me know if anyone has questions by calling me at 277-5060 or by email at  Thanks

DJ at Kids S.T.E.M. day at the Museum of Aviation

DJ and I were invited to attend the Kids S.T.E.M. Day at the Museum of Aviation with Ms. Capece from our school.

We had such a great time!

First DJ got to look through a couple of telescopes.
Then we went outside and saw the remote controlled model airplanes put on an air show.
Then we went inside and the kids did space math with M&M's
At first DJ wasn't too sure about it, as the math part was on about 3rd and 4th grade level, but once we got into doing it he had a great time!
Then we moved on to learning about airplanes and what makes them fly.
The kids made paper helicopters
After they had taken a few minutes to fly their paper helicopters the moved onto making balsa wood gliders.
After lunch we moved on to making solar powered race cars.
At the end of the day we looked around a little
And let the boys go on the simulator ride. :0) All in all it was a great day!

I am posting this in memory of all of our fallen, but tonight, Army Specialist, Mark Downer, is in my thoughts. May God bless his family and give them comfort.

For the Military Wife

I would like to recognize these often underestimated, unseen, and unheard heroes.
This is for the sad Military wives, the angry Military wives, and the strong Military wives.
This is for the young women that are waking up at 6 a.m. every morning, laying out clothes and packing three lunches for those small precious children that they have been left alone to care for.
This is for the pregnant Military wife wondering if her husband will make it home in time to watch their miracle happen.
This is for the childless Military wife, living in a town or on a base alone where she is a complete stranger to her surroundings.
This is for the women that feel like a third leg when they go out with their friends and their husbands.
This is for the Military wife that cancelled all her plans to wait by the phone, and even though the phone broke up and cut off every time you spoke to him you waited anyway.
This is a pledge to the women that cry themselves to sleep in an empty bed.
This is to recognize the woman that felt like she was dying inside when he said he had to go, but smiled for him anyway.
This is for those of you that are faithfully in that long line at the post office once a month, handling 2 large boxes and 2 small children like a pro.
This is for that woman that decided to remodel the house to pass time, and then realized that she had no idea what she was doing and sighed and wished she had a little help.
This is for all the lonely nights, all the one-person dinners, and all of the wondering thoughts because you haven't heard from him in days.
A toast to you for falling apart, and putting yourselves back together. Because a pay check isn't enough, a body pillow in your bed is no consolation, and a web cam can never compare.
This is for all of you no matter how easy or hard this was for you. Our soldiers/sailors are brave, they are heroes, but so are we.
So the next time someone tells you that they would never marry a Military guy, don't bother explaining to them that you can't control who you fall in love with. Just think of this and nod your head, know that you are the stronger woman.
Hold your heads up high, hang that flag in your front yard, stick 100 magnets on your car, and then give yourself a pat on the back. Be proud to be the woman that you are, be proud to be a Military wife! Follow me on Twitter at!/scienceesl

One Month Ago Today, sts135, nasatweetup

I woke up at 1:30 in the morning, and was at the La Quinta Daytona at 2:30 am.

I drove myself and 4 new friends 80 miles south, and hung out in a parking lot for a little while, RAVE NASATweetup style.

Then drove onto Kennedy Space Center, and saw this:
and this:
and this IMG_5772
and this
Then I hung out with these people
STS-135 Tweetup
and watched this
while we prayed for the clouds to part.
I visited
I got to hear and met

and then finally after all of that wait, this happened...
And then I did a little bit of this
and some hanging out with these people:
Tried to convince this guy to come visit us in the twent
And then after 17 hours I drove back to Daytona with these people

And you know what? If they asked me today to go back and do it all again tomorrow? I would be there in less than 8 hours.

Thank you NASA, NASATWEETUP, STS-135 for all of the wonderful memories.
