I Heart Faces Slice of Life

This week at I Heart Faces the theme is A Slice of Life, meaning an image that you feels captures a “slice of life.

I chose this picture of DJ from last weekend, while we were waiting to take part of the Dublin GA St. Patrick's Day parade. The Boy Scouts passed out flags to all of the Veterans that were taking part in the parade, as well as all of the kids that were riding on the vehicles with the Veterans, so DJ got one. Right by where the Humvee was lined up was a creek, and DJ being all boy, had to go explore.

Love it!!

Jerry got this the other day in his email from a guy he games with online. I loved it!

LOVE IT!!!

Recently an article in the St. Petersburg, Fl. Times, The Business Section asked readers
for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President, Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.
Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in

the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy
a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes...

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know. If not, please
                  disregard.

Fw: Please light a Luminaria in our Ceremony of Hope

e American Cancer Society
If you are unable to view the message below, click here to view

For many people who attend Relay For Life, one of the most moving parts of the event is the Ceremony of Hope. As the light dims over campsites and team members complete laps, the night is brightened by the glow of lighted bags called luminaria, each of which has a special meaning. Some luminaria celebrate the survivorship of people who have battled cancer and lived to tell the tale. Many commemorate the lives of those who have been lost to this disease. All represent a person who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to be touched by that experience.

Will you help spread the light of hope? Just go to my personal page and click on Luminaria to honor or remember your loved one today! The link to my page is at ths bottom of this email. After making your donation, you will also have the option to send an e-card to inform family members and friends of your special gift.

Please light a candle in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has had cancer. Your contribution will help save lives, give hope, and empower people through the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission.

Thank you.

St. Patrick's Day Parade Dublin GA

Saturday Jerry was asked to drive the humvee in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, GA. DJ and I tagged along, and brought one of the girls from his Sunday School class to join in the fun.

It was a beautiful day for a parade, and we enjoyed the Veterans that rode along with Jerry and the kids. As Jerry was leaving Dublin he was in a parking lot where they were smoking and cooking ribs and Boston Butts. He mentioned how good it smelled and was going to buy one when the person running it gave him one for free just for his service to our country. Which was pretty cool if you ask me.

Who ya gonna call?

Ghost Busters!

We were part of the Cherry Blossom Parade on Sunday. Jerry was asked to drive the Humvee for the parade and the kids and I joined in. While we were lined up, across the way from us were the Ghost Busters, which my husband had to have his picture taken with.

Help me fight back

he American Cancer Society
If you are unable to view the message below, click here to view

This year, over 1.4 million Americans will hear the words 'You have cancer'. I know too many people who are touched by cancer, and that is why I have joined the American Cancer Society on a mission to save lives and create a world with more birthdays by participating in the Relay For Life in my community.

At Relay For Life we celebrate loved ones who have won their battle against cancer, remember those who are no longer with us, and fight back against this disease that touches so many. I am determined to make a difference, and I hope you will join me. I will be walking on May 13th at the Twiggs County High School.

Please, support me in my efforts by using the link below to visit my personal web page and make a donation. Every dollar raised brings us one dollar closer to a cure, and to a time when the number of people who have to hear the words "you have cancer" is zero.

Thank you so much for your support. Together, we ARE saving lives and creating a world with more birthdays!

Tolerance

Dictionary.com says

: tol·er·ance

  [tol-er-uhns]  Show IPA
–noun
1.
a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differfrom one's own; freedom from bigotry

I have tried to not say anything about this subject because I know it can get heated, and I know that not everyone shares my views, but things have been said lately to my children that make me feel like I need to at least get it off my chest on here. I am not writing this to start a debate, or call anyone out. I am writing this to explain why I am upset.

People are different, all over the world people are different, be it religion, sexuality, race, whatever the case may be. I expect my children to treat EVERYONE the same. I believe that on the inside we are all the same, and that NO ONE should judge you for it. I expect that if the Human Race as a whole were more tolerant to those who are different than them, there would be a heck of a lot less problems in the world. And I expect that people in authority especially over those in their teens should model tolerance, and being more accepting.

Maybe we are more tolerant as a family because of our life experiences, my children have been raised all over, starting in Arizona, and Florida and moving to the United Kingdom for 8 years. Maybe being exposed to all of the differences of cultures that are in the United Kingdom and Europe is why they are more tolerant that people that we have met since moving to Georgia, people who have never lived outside of this local area.

I get very upset when people who are authority figures in my own children's lives purposefully go about trying to change this thinking in my children. Especially on a topic such as tolerance, and what they should be accepting of in others. How can that be considered the good Christian thing?

I don't bash you because you are not tolerant, and I would expect the same from you.
