All Systems GO for launch!!! NASATweetup STS135

I just saw the best possible thing ever on Facebook!

From NASA's Facebook group 1 minute ago -- "NASA Managers voted unanimously to proceed toward STS-135 launch and officially set the launch date – July 8 at 11:26 a.m. EDT. The Post-Flight Readiness Review news conference will occur at 3:30 p.m. EDT on NASA TV: http://www.nasa.gov/ntv"

What that translates to? NASATweetup for the STS135 and the final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis should all happen without any problems on July 7th (for the tweetup) and July 8th for the launch!

OH MY GOODNESS! I am going to be useless for the next week or so!!! You have been warned!!

New Richland Baptist Church Youth taking off to Superwow

The Youth from New Richland Baptist Church on Highway 96 left on Saturday to attend Superwow on Jekyll Island.

The youth have worked hard all year selling dinner plates about one Sunday a month to raise the money needed to attend this spiritual week.

This week they will be hearing from spiritual leaders and working in group sessions to move closer to God and their beliefs.

Some of the people that they will be hearing from include:
Ed Newton, Aaron Keyes, and Ben Glenn. The kids met Ed Newton last year on their Superwow trip and were very moved by him. I am sure they will have the same experiences this year.

Please pray for them and keep them in your thoughts this week!

Please help a Robins Air Force Base Family get a service dog

There is an Air Force family in need right here in middle Georgia. I am hoping that someone out there can help the family out. The family of Eddie Davies Jr is trying to raise the money to get him a service dog from the group  4 Paws for Ability.

Little Eddie has  9P deletion, also called Alfi’s syndrome, and an 8Q duplication of his chromosomes. The first involves the partial deletion of a chromosome and the second involves the duplication of another.

The family needs to raise at least $13,000 in order to get little Eddie this dog that will enable them to rest easier. The service dog will be trained to alert the family when Eddie is about to have a seziure.

You can read more about how to help the Davies family at: http://www.macon.com/2011/06/22/1603516/family-raises-money-for-service.html#ixzz1Q2vXbGBS

MEDIA RELEASE

Twiggs County Resident is One of 150 Selected to Attend NASA Tweetup for Last Space Shuttle Launch, July 7 - 8, 2011

NASA Twitter Followers Will Tweet History as Shuttle Program Nears Retirement

Jeffersonville, GA (June 15, 2011) NASA will bring together 150 Twitter followers to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a two-day Tweetup, July 7 - 8, 2011, for the final launch of Atlantis before the space shuttle program is retired.  Twiggs County resident Patricia Cleveland has been selected as one of 150 @NASA Twitter followers to attend and Tweet the event. Atlantis is targeted to launch on July 8 at around 11:40 a.m. EDT on mission STS-135 to the International Space Station.

As a NASA Tweetup attendee, Cleveland and the other 149 Twitterers will interact with NASA shuttle technicians, engineers, astronauts, managers and NASA’s social media team as well as tour Kennedy Space Center and view the shuttle launch from the media area. Attendees were selected through a lottery system in which more than 5,500 @NASA Twitter followers applied.

“This is a great honor and privilege to represent Twiggs County Public Schools, and to fulfill a lifetime dream by going to witness a shuttle launch. With it being the last launch of the space shuttle program it is especially humbling, and exciting.” Cleveland said, “I am looking forward to bringing my experiences, and photographs through twitter and my blog as well as back to my students at Jeffersonville Elementary and getting them excited about the space program.”

Patricia Cleveland is a fourth grade teacher at Jeffersonville Elementary School, in Twiggs County, Georgia. Mrs. Cleveland has her master’s degree from National Louis University in instruction and curriculum and her bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University. Mrs. Cleveland has taught for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools at RAF Lakenheath, and in Florida before moving to Georgia with her husband, an active duty member of the United States Air Force, and three children. Follow her Tweets at twitter.com/scienceesl, and her blog of the events at http://scienceesl.blogspot.com

Note About Space Shuttle Atlantis’ Launch Date
The date of Atlantis’ launch will be official after the Flight Readiness Review, scheduled for June 28.  If the launch date moves or is delayed prior to July 8, NASA may change the Tweetup schedule accordingly to coincide with the launch.
