General Scott loved his family, his country and the Museum of Aviation. He used to say, "This Museum gave me a purpose in life". Thousands of people - young and old - have been inspired by his determination to succeed against all odds. He was truly "one of a kind" and a great American patriot.

NASA RERC Educator Workshop
April 21

NASA RERC Educator Workshop is for Middle School teachers. The workshop will be held April 21 from 9 am to 4 pm at the NASA RERC at the Museum of Aviation.

The NASA BEST Activities Guides were designed to teach students the Engineering Design Process. Each guide has been created for grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8.  All grades will follow the same set of activities that teach students about humans' endeavor to return to the Moon:
  • How we investigate the Moon remotely (Part 1)
  • The modes of transportation to and on the Moon (Part 2)
  • Humans living and working on the Moon (Part 3)
The Engineering Design Process is a series of steps that engineers use to guide them as they solve problems. What makes this curriculum different from the others is there are no "recipe" for building the items in each activity and no given drawings.

The emphasis is for students to understand that engineers must "imagine and plan" before they begin to build and experiment. To successfully complete the NASA BEST Activities, students must draw their ideas first before constructing.
Museum of Aviation Foundation Receives State Flags Donation

The Museum of Aviation Foundation received a donation from Ginger Edenfield to purchase a set of 50 State flags.
State flags are displayed around the Outdoor Amphitheater.  Flags are flown daily.  The weather takes a toll on the flags which arereplaced two times per year.  With support, the State flags will continue to wave.

State flags allow individuals, groups or organizations to sponsor a flag for $250 a year.  Flag sponsors get a plate on the flag pole to recognize their sponsorship of a loved one, veteran, organization or relative.  The cost of sponsorship and state flag donations are tax deductible as a donation to the Museum of Aviation Foundation.

The Amphitheater is located in the center of the 51-acre Museum complex and is used for concerts, outdoor ceremonies, education programs and other events all year long.

For information about donating toward the purchase of a set of state flags or flag sponsorship, visit www.museumofaviation.org or call (478) 923-6600.

One Happy and Proud Teacher Part II

My former student, Frank Ponce, from when we were stationed at Lakenheath, along with his team, has been awarded the 2012-2013 South Carolina Film Commission's $100,000 Grant!

To say that I am proud of him, would be an understatement! :-)

Check out their film Theo!

My White House Tour #WHTweetup

While on the actual White House Tour, you are not allowed to take pictures. Sigh....
Which means I have no photographic proof of my brush with fame! I ran into a member of the first family in the East Wing!
I was looking at the various photo collages along the wall, I was looking at the collage of the First Animals, and I stepped backwards to allow others to get in closer. As I stepped back I bumped into someone. I turned to say that I was sorry, and didn't see anyone so I looked down thinking "Oh no! I stepped on a kid!" Nope not a kid. It was however an adorable Portuguese Water Dog, named Bo. Yes I ran into the First Dog! :-) It didn't even phase him, as he kept on trotting down the hall with his handler/secret service person. I said I was sorry, and hi to Bo and kept on going. I am sad that I couldn't take a close up picture with this member of the First Family though! ;-) There were people on the tour that didn't even see Bo go right by them, and others that had no idea who they were seeing.
Once you go out the front you can take pictures on the grounds. So here I am standing on the North Side of the White House.
Fellow tourists

When I left the White House I walked over to the official Visitor Center to get signed up for the Park Service lesson plans. However I was met with this:
It turns out that someone illegally parked at white van at 15th and E, and this caused a security alert. We had to stand and wait to be cleared to go any further.

One Happy and Proud Teacher

I am one proud and happy teacher this weekend!

My former student Natalie and her family came to Orlando to visit with the kids and I! It was so good to see her. As she told DJ last time we saw each other I was pregnant with him, and now she has her own little baby girl. I love seeing my former students having great lives. :-)

Exploring DC

I realized that I had never (in either of my trips) been to the Fords Theater, so I made a point to stop by there just to say I had.

I really liked the Civil War to Civil Rights informational boards throughout DC, and had to take at least one picture of them.

One last look at the Jefferson Memorial

This is an old gate house at the White House, there are two high water marks from the floods in the 1800's

Thank you DSW @DSWShoeLovers for your great customer service and assistance!

Last week I was very upset with FILA and DSW because my Skele-Toes that were less than a month old already had holes in the big toes. FILA gave me the line to return them to DSW, and the DSW in Macon told me to contact FILA.

If you saw my post you know I wasn't very happy.

Well the folks at DSW's Twitter page saw my tweet and post and helped me sort it out! They helped me get a replacement pair of shoes, and the new shoes were waiting for me when I got home Friday before we left on our trip!

I wanted to let everyone know what great help the folks at https://twitter.com/#!/DSWShoeLovers were and to thank them again for helping me sort this out! I would have posted this thank you sooner, but with traveling this is the first night where we have had internet access!

#mamavation #2weekchallenge Day 14 @mrbookieboo

Whew! It has been a busy couple of days!

Friday morning I woke up early and went on a 4 mile walk around the neighborhood to get my exercise in before work, as I knew the kids and I would be leaving shortly after school and driving to Orlando. My step count for the day was: 14,343

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and headed for Universal Studios, where we spent the day. My step count for the day was 24,437 and I spent about an hour in the pool swimming with DJ and Kylie in the afternoon.

Today we woke up just as early and headed to Islands of Adventure and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. My step count is 23,825 and we spent about an hour in the pool this evening before dinner.

Needless to say I am a very tired mommy tonight!

My weekly total for this week is: 133,438 which is about 53.53 miles, with various nights of gym work, swimming, and daily Pat's Run training walks (which I need to start back to on Tuesday, depending on what we decide to do here in Orlando. I may figure out how big the Florida Mall is to do the circuit in there and walk it as soon as it opens for that in the morning.

My jeans are feeling looser, so I know I am making progress towards my goals. I have even been eating fairly well on our trip, sharing meals with the kids, or eating salads/fruit. It has been a good two weeks!
