The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive.
My take on this article?
They are trying to force everyone to move into the cities. Out here in the sticks of Georgia, there is NO public transportation.
The federal gas tax already hurts those of us that live away from our work sites.
Yes, we chose to move out here, we chose to move 25 miles from the base. The reason why? As a teacher the job I could find was 30 miles from the base. At the half way point between the two? There are no houses, nothing we could rent, at least. If there were, would I move into one of them? Probably, but there isn't so its a moot point. Could I find a job closer to the base? Probably NOT with all of the funding cuts in education. I looked long and hard and went on every interview I was called about in the county where the base is and didn't even have a nibble.
If the Obama administration seriously considers making this tax happen, then I hope he seriously looks into the rural areas of Georgia, where there is no public transportation and takes all of us into account. Or maybe they want all of us on welfare.
