Wow its been a LONG busy week!
I have not had two minutes to sit down at the computer to post all week, and this weekend we will be driving to Mississippi to see Jerry's mom, so...
School is going well for all of us.
Hopefully life will slow down some in the next couple of weeks so I can get back to my regularly scheduled posting.
If anything big happens in the world, send me an email, or call me. Because goodness knows I will miss it!

Kelsey's football coach told her last night that if she wants to video tape all three seasons that she can for him as long as she keeps her grades up. He also told her that with what he had seen so far that he has college level connections and will help her get into video taping at the college level with a possibility of scholarships, which I thought was pretty cool. She seems to be making a good impression on everyone that she meets out at the school. All of her teachers that I met last night at the game had nothing but high praises for her.

A nice night
Last night was a nice night.
I got to go out with 6 other women, for a mom's night out. One of the gals that Jerry works with organizes these, and she has invited me a couple of times, but I have always had work.
It was a lot of fun to go out and just hang out with other women, and talk.
Hopefully I can go again next month.

Go for the gold!
Is it scary that DJ knows who Michael Phelps is, and what he does?
The other night, when the guys swam for the 4x100 relay gold, he was screaming just as loud as Jerry and I.
The lunch room cashier asked him about watching Michael Phelps the night before, and he told her all about the races on Tuesday night.
Then he also told her that he fell asleep before his second race, so he missed the second one (the 4x200 relay that they walked away with the gold). "Mommy was mean, and let me sleep, so I MISSED the race!"
He cracks me up.
Of course last night was the first night all week I went to sleep before midnight. I hope I didn't miss any big happenings. LOL
Jerry, the man who does not root for sports, gets very involved in rooting for the Olympics. We have woken the girls up more than once this week, cheering for one of the Americans. Ooops!!!
I hope everyone else is enjoying the games!

Tired
Today was a long day.
We were under a tornado watch most of the morning, and I think having the first tornado drill today did not help.
The kids all fed off of it, and were just wired the rest of the day.
So I am tired

Model Math Drawing sucess!
All this last week or so, when ever we have done a word problem as part of our morning work, I have modeled to the students how to use Model Math Drawing to find their answers, as well as having them answer in complete sentences.
Today I got to see that it is working!
I was trying to get one of the students on track for the day, and yet keep the rest of the class going, so I asked for a volunteer to do the word problem up on the board.
Y volunteered, and then proceeded to complete the problem completely using model math drawing!
She made a mistake skip counting, but since she had the drawing we were able to see exactly where the mistake was. I was very happy with this!
Now if I could just figure out the secret to getting my one little girl to stay attending to the task at hand, and the secret to keeping the one little boy from loosing it, all would be wonderful!

Changes
Natalie has had her schedule changed at school. The school is small enough that all of the kids go to all of their classes together, except when she goes to band.
Overall she likes it, but the class she was in, the others were not always shall we say on the top of their game?
Or else the teachers weren't always the ones in control of the situation. (I've been there, so no complaints from me, she's had that situation before and will again, so we were dealing with it.)
One of her teachers on the other hand decided that it wasn't fair to her.
So they emailed the counselor and asked that they make a change to move Natalie to a better group of kids.
"Natalie is a bright young lady who is very quiet, it would be wonderful if she was in a class of like minded students."
:)
Now she just has to get to know the new group...

Sticky post, newer posts down below! Support a great cause! Strength in Pink, three day walkers for Breast Cancer research
My Aunt Donna, and cousins Michelle, Terry, and Stephanie, are walking the 3 day event in Chicago.
This is a wonderful event that raises a lot of money for Breast Cancer Research every year. My mom has walked 3 times, and this is my aunt's 5th walk, and Michelle's second walk.
In my Aunt Donna's own words:
If you can help support them in any way, please consider doing so. They are getting close to their goals, but need an extra push to get all the way there. Just click on one of their names to go to their online donation page.
I am looking into working the volunteer crew at the Atlanta walk in October, as soon as I get more details I will be talking to my new principal about getting the days off to go and help out. Maybe next year I can join the family as a walker (or see if I can go out and walk with my mom if she wants to walk again!)
Thanks to you all for considering helping out.

"Please support me as I take my fifth walk for breast cancer and amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! I am walking with my daughters, Michelle, Stephanie and my nephew, Terry (his mother, my sister is also a breast cancer survivor) our team is called "Strength in Pink". The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment. I am a 18 year breast cancer survivor and will continue to fight for a cure for all the other women and men in the world. Please help with your donation of $10, $20, or more, it all helps toward my goal of raising $2,200 or more for 2008.
Thank you!"

Boycott Tropic Thunder
For Kennedy and all of the other precious babies out there.
Show Hollywood that making fun of special needs kids is wrong!
Here is what happens:
“Tropic Thunder” is a comedy produced by DreamWorks/Paramount, and directed and written by Ben Stiller, who also stars in the movie.
The plot includes a group of pampered actors, lost in the jungle while making a war movie. Tugg Speedman, Ben Stiller’s character, is a fading action hero who missed his Oscar opportunity with his portrayal of Simple, a character with an intellectual disability. Speedman’s portrayal of Simple is a movie within the movie, “Simple Jack.”
Already “Tropic Thunder” has presented audiences with a new go to phrase, “Never Go Full Retard.”
And for much less than the cost of a session with one of my son’s therapists, you can purchase a t-shirt declaring to the world that you are a Full Retard.
I have to tell you this, I am disappointed that Stiller, Black, and several others of the actors in this movie allowed this hate crime to go forward. I am appalled at their lack of concern for the feelings of the people that they are hurting. And I know that they would get in big trouble had they came up with a similar slang phrase with the N word, or defaming homosexuals!

Wave
Its official! I no longer work at Lowes!!!
As of 5 pm tonight I walked out the door, to no longer return as an employee!!!
Much trouble was ensured to get to this point, with much drama!
Some one mistakenly scheduled me to work next weekend.
Now if it had been in my favor to work, I probably would have told K that I would do it. However it was CRAZY hours, like 10 hours on Saturday, then 3 on Sunday, and then closing the following Friday night. HA! Nope not gonna happen.
I predict that this week will be just as crazy as last with school. So if anyone needs to get ahold of me, please email me!

Long Week!
Its been a great crazy week. I literally have not been on a computer for more than 20 minutes in a sitting all week. I am glad its Friday!
DJ has had a good week at Pre-K, today was a bit rough on him though. And its my fault.
Since we are in the same school he has done great with the drop off in the mornings, and Mrs. H his teacher said he has been good all week. Then today I got the brillant idea to go in when he was eating lunch to say hi. Which made him upset, because it wasn't time to go home. I had my bag with me because the counselor was in my room with my students, so I was trying to find a new place to do some work.
Then this afternoon of course he didn't want to listen.
Hopefully if I stay away next week he will go back to normal for them.
The girls are enjoying school, making friends and just having a good time. So far neither of them has said that they think they made a wrong choice. Kelsey has classes with Seniors, so she thinks that is super cool. Natalie is one of 4 kids in band that have experience, so she definately thinks that is cool. (This is the first year the school has had band in a few years.)
My class is great, a few struggles, but that is to be expected. We are just going to have to work at it.
The biggest thing for me is that two days a week I don't have a planning period, and I have to teach PE and Art, or Computer lab. LOL Me, and art and PE? LOL
We will figure it out, and I will do it, its just this week was a bit hectic. Plus being to hot to go outside for recess has not helped a whole heck of a lot.
Tonight was the earliest that we have left the school all week, but hopefully next week I will be in the swing of things and able to feel like I can leave before 4 pm.
Last night we had a parent meeting at 6, so the kids and I packed a dinner and just stayed out there. I swear it felt like I blinked and it was time for the meeting, and I didn't get half of what I wanted to get done, done.

First Day of School
Whew its over.....
Lets just say last night I was not a shining example of motherhood and leave it at that. Blame it on stress, from working all weekend (by the way I gave my notice at Lowes!! Anyone else want to celebrate on the 16th with me? Seeing how thats the first Saturday I don't have to work?), and feeling like I was 100% not ready for today. My own children took the brunt of it, I felt like crap after it was said and done, but it doesnt change it.
Today went as smoothly as could be expected.
Jerry rode out with us to school, so that he could see where the schools were. He drove the girls over to their school and walked them in to make sure they were ok. Then came back over and had breakfast with DJ and took him to his class.
By the way did I mention that breakfasts and lunch are free for all students in the county I am teaching in?
I had students arriving in my room within minutes of my arrival at 705, that part was a bit rough, because I could not get copies made, and I had them straight through until 3:15 when we put them on the bus.
We played the name game with a beach ball, which went well.
We did some basic math practice problems, which didn't go as well for some of the students, we are going back to the basics with some of them!
I read part of Ramona the Pest to them.
We played outside for about 10 minutes, then it was too hot. Plus the only equipment we had were my clever catch ball, and a beach ball. Not so good. I need to find our soccer balls and take them out to play with.
We came up with our class rules, I had them be a part of the process, so they could own the rules. I think it went well. They really struggle with being quiet in the halls, and we had some bathroom issues with them wanting to go all the time, so we have to work on that routine.
Tomorrow we will start in the reading book and math book because we need to get into that part of the routine.
I did start them on their home journals today. Just a brief note home today saying that they needed to read tonight, and how their day went. Hopefully they will all remember to show their parents. Stickers will be out in force tomorrow for the ones that come back signed. I want the journals to work, and I want the parents to know to look for them. Since I didn't get copies made its all on the kids tonight. EEEKKKK
As for my own kids, they all had very good days! Thank goodness!
Both of the girls like most of their classes, but especially science.
Kelsey has two science classes this semester because they are on a block schedule, so she only has 4 classes total. She will change next semester. She also has already talked to the coaches about video taping for the teams.
Natalie really likes her band class, and says everyone is nice.
When I ran downt to check on DJ at lunch (when the Media Specialist watched my class) the parapro said he was having a good day, just a bit talkative. Thats my kid all right.
Outside my door
