Democratic debate/Oprah/Obama

Darn, I forgot to DVR it... Guess I can't watch it and decide who not to vote for. Of course right now I can't seem to find any proof that there was a debate today on the internet, so maybe my source (yesterdays debate) was heard wrong. Eh whatever.

I find it interesting that on http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ today there is an article about Oprah's "fans" being upset with her for stumping for Obama. Especially comments like:
Oprah's Web site is why some of those fans seem to be upset: the way she stumped for Obama, they say, seemed to pit white against black.
Huh? How do they figure? I know pleanty of whites that say they like Barack Obama a lot more than they like Hillary Clinton, and will vote for him over her any day.

Even Jerry said last night that he didn't think it was right that someone with Oprah's "power" stumping for one of the candidates.

I look at it differently. I figure celebs have been stumping for candidates since the begining of time, so why should Oprah and Obama be any different?

I mean Bill stumps for Hillary (ok ok so they are married, but he was a President.)

Curt Schilling stumped for McCain last week.

And this is a list found on http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071211/STYLE/312110005/-1/news20

I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrities campaigning for any candidate. They are, after all, voters, too.

And, frankly, anyone who votes for a candidate just because their favorite celebrity votes for them gets what they deserve.

What I hope happens is that certain celebrities may encourage people to participate in the election process who would not have done so without a new conversation being started by said celebrity. I hope that they do their own research into the candidates and where they stand on the issues important to us, and vote accordingly.

I hope, but I don't expect.
