Update, to the update

I got home from going to lunch with Jerry, picking up DJ at nap time, and running to the mall to look for a trench coat type of jacket that wasn't $50 or more (had no luck, except at Target which was my first stop, and at that point I didn't want to spend $40).

Sorry got off track....

Anyway, I got home and the last email that came in while I was gone was from the lady at the school district, saying my fingerprints are processed and I can call at 4:30 to register on the system. She said that the problem was with the sheriff office's machine, and they had to get it fixed, before they could process my background check. She also said that she let the school where I am going to start next week, as well as one other school know that everything is cleared and that I am good to go. The other school she mentioned, I didn't even know had asked.


Since I am teaching online tonight for 6 hours, I am not sure I will get a chance to post again. Scratch that, I am teaching for 5 hours. I came in the bedroom to get set up, grabbed my headphones and the wire popped out of the headset. Jerry is on his way to the EE to get a new set, but with rush hour I don't think he will be back before I have to teach, so I asked them to pull my first session. Now to hope beyond hope that the new set will work with the classroom, some sets just wont work for some reason.

So here are my updates about my blogs that I exhibit OCD about checking in daily. AKA my Thursday Thirteen! These are in no particular order..

3. Over at Remodeling this life she has done a bunch of great posts lately, everything from sharing the new granite countertops, to how being unprepared can be costly, to finding the beauty in the little things in life.

4. Kate at One More Thing makes me smile on an almost daily basis. Her posts are wonderful and if you have not been there yet, what are you waiting on?

5. Tricia over at Confessions of a CF Husband has been running a fever for the past couple of weeks off and on. Which is not a good thing, and they need to get it figured out. This also means that she can't go done to the NICU to visit with Gwyneth. However she did get to go outside yesterday for a while for some fresh air. Nathan posted a cute picture of the two of them, plus some pictures of Gwyneth without the CPAP on so you can see her better. :)

6. Alice over at Living life breathlessly is out of the hospital and from all accounts doing great! Her lung function was at a 65% yesterday, compared to 20% just a couple of weeks ago.

7. A at This Wasn't in the Plan always has some great recipes with less than 10 ingredients in them, as well as grocery shopping tips, and other frugal ideas.

8. L at Ramblings of a pseudo intellectual shares her newest addiction (www.jellyfish.com), as well as funny stories.

9. Iowa Geek I only found this one yesterday, and they crack me up. I don't agree with everything that is said, but when does everyone always agree? ;)

10. Because I said so This would be Dawn of the EBAY mom stories. Again she cracks me up.

Ok onto the subbing update!

I went to the school this morning. I checked in and went to Ms. S's classroom. Ms. S asked me if Mr. L had talked to me about a change in plans. Um not since Saturday.
Then she told me that when she got back to school yesterday (she took Tuesday off to go to the doctor), she had an email from a sub introducing herself as her long term sub. (What? HUH?)

So Ms. S emailed Mr. L asking if their was a change in plans that we didn't know about, explaining that I had been in on Monday, and we had a great day etc. He wrote back and said that he needed me in a kinder class starting Monday, and he just needed to talk to me about it again.

Ms. S said she almost called me last night from home and asked me if I knew about it, but she had left my number at school, and she knew I was coming by this morning. I had told her about my conversation with Mr. L from Saturday, when I was in there on Monday, but we both thought it was for the teacher that is out on disability. So we still didn't really know what was going on this morning.

So I walked back up to the office to talk to Mr. L. They have two certified teachers in each kinder class. The "parapro" teacher in the one room has to leave starting Monday (I didn't ask why).

Then he took me to meet the parapro, and then to meet the main teacher. I am going in next week even if my paperwork is not back to get my feet wet, and get started even if it is on a voluntary basis. (Even though I am hoping beyond hope that the paperwork is back by then).

I figure that if I go in and voluntarily work in there that will hopefully help me get a job for the fall. I came home today because I still have a headache from yesterday, and well there isn't really room for 3 teacher types in one kinder class.

Mr. L was so sweet, singing my praises to the kinder teacher and to everyone else that he introduced me to. I guess I made a decent impression the 2 times before today that I have talked to him.

Kelsey did this tonight on the magnadoodle in about 2 minutes. The only bad part is that her school does not offer art classes. As soon as I have a job and some of the bills paid down we will have to look into art classes of some type.

Prayers for a friend please

I just got off the phone with my friend N in Florida. We have a mutual set of friends V and K who were expecting their second child later this spring.

V was at N's house over the weekend to get her 3d ultrasound and to visit for a weekend while she was at Keesler for NCO academy. Everything was fine, and they discovered that they were expecting a little boy.

Sunday night V checked the baby with her fetal monitor and everything was fine.

Monday V was busy and didn't listen to his heartbeat, but had felt him moving.

Yesterday V didn't feel him moving, and could not find his heart beat, but L&D at the hospital at Keesler told her that he was probably just in a spot that she could not hear it with her little monitor and that if she still couldn't get his heartbeat this morning to go in.

This morning V went in and they could not find his heart beat on their monitors and when they did the ultrasound his little heart was still.

The hospital at Keesler wanted to have her deliver right there, but she wanted to travel home to Louisiana to be with her husband when she had the baby. So they allowed her to leave school and she is on her way home. K and his boss are driving toward Keesler from Shreveport and K will take her the rest of the way from where ever they meet, back to Shreveport and to the hospital, where she will deliver the baby.

Please keep V, K and D (their dd) in your thoughts and prayers, this baby was most wanted and most loved already. Pray that they make the trip safely, and that they find peace with this devastating loss. Also please pray that K will be spared from having to go on his deployment that he was slated to leave for soon, so that he can spend time helping V and D deal with this loss.

Happy 4 weeks Baby Gwyneth!!

Today baby Gwyneth is 4 weeks old!!! Happy 4 weeks little girl!!!

Her "month" birthday isn't until Friday, but today is a day to celebrate if you ask me!!!

Go to Nathan's blog and read more about them, and wish that precious little girl happy four weeks in the world! (even if I am waiting for Nathan to post his weekly update pictures with her puppy! Hint hint Nathan! ;) )

It sounds like Tricia is sleeping a bit better, which is great news! If you are interested there is two different versions of their "love story" up on the blog.

The other blogger that I have been following Alice is out of the hospital and doing wonderfully from all accounts.

Thats all I got for tonight. I will have pictures from DJ and my trip to Monkey Joes today up tomorrow. :)

Still no news on my fingerprints for subbing, I am so mad right now its not even funny.

Another day, another $60 down the drain

My fingerprints are still not back, so I still can not sub. I could have been in the 5th grade class that I am going to do the long term position in at the end of the month today, because she has a doctors appointment.

I figured it out today that this hold up has cost me about $600 so far, because I have had at least 2 phone calls a day from different schools needing a sub since the day that I passed out my business cards. I even had one secretary ask me that morning that I passed them out if I was able to start right then. Sigh

If loosing the money wasn't frustrating enough, I am also loosing out on making an impression on the principals, teachers, and secretaries that will help me get hired on for the fall. I saw what I am up against on Saturday, and I need to make a good impression to have a chance. While I am looking forward to doing a long term sub for 6 weeks, that only lets me work with one set of people. I know that the school I am going to be at has an ESOL position open, but only one other one is even a maybe at this point, so there is going to be some competition for both of those.

Ok enough griping, I am off to have lunch with Jerry.

Pacing, I feel like I am pacing

And yet, I am sitting still...

And no it has nothing to do with the fact that the younger Manning just scored with 35 seconds left in the Super Bowl.

Tonight when I got home from Lowes, (late, due to some incompetent nincompoop who didn't return to work from lunch) Kelsey told me that Mr. L called me and wanted me to call him back.

Who is Mr. L, you ask? The principal at the school that I am supposed to go in and do that long term sub for (kindergarten is what he asked me about yesterday, 5th grade was what he had asked me about earlier).

I tried calling him back before I started tutoring and got his voice mail on his cell phone. I figured he was at church since when I drove by the church the parking lot was slam packed full.

Then I tried calling again about 1/2 hour ago, and got his voice mail again. I didn't leave a message this time.

I already had planned on being at the school between 7:30 and 7:45 tomorrow to meet with the 5th grade teacher that I had already been arranged for. So I am going to keep that plan in action, and go in and see what is going on.

I am almost afraid that since Kelsey told him that I was at work, at Lowe's, and that he called an hour and a half before I got the message, that he will have given the kindergarten long term position to someone else. Which will suck, because we could really use the money if I started doing that this week (its about $15 more a day to long term sub) but at least I should still have the 5th grade long term sub position.

I am kind of upset that Kelsey didn't tell me that he had called when I called home as I was leaving work. I know it would have only been about 15 minutes earlier that I called him back, and he still probably would have been in church, but still. I didn't ask her why she didn't tell me when I called, its just something I thought of since I haven't been able to reach him.

I am praying that when I get there tomorrow morning it turns out that he was just calling to see if I was still planning on coming by tomorrow.

I am really upset with the gal from work who went to lunch at 3 and decided that she didn't have to return to work, and didn't call. From all accounts she has done this several times before, and because she is good buddies with the one head cashier she never gets in trouble for it. Which is BS if you ask me. Because not only did she inconvenience me, she made the other girl that works the registers at that end of the store go an hour over her time, which now she will have to cut that hour later in the week, and they had to close the registers in the garden center an hour earlier than they should have because I had to leave to be home to tutor at 7. What made it all stand out for me today was the fact that she was late coming back on Wednesday from her lunch, which threw all of the other lunches off by 10 minutes, then 20, then 30, then 40. And now this today.

There are some updates over on Confessions of a CF Husband, like that baby Gwyneth is off the vent and on cpap, and that Nathan got to kangaroo care with her again last night. I am praying that she is able to stay on the cpap! In the post Trust and PeaceNathan explains why Tricia is on contact isolation, please join me in prayers that drug resistant bug gets cleared up soon. I know that, that will lead to a faster recovery for her if it does, also join me in praying that her case isn't like mine was last winter.

Ok, so my friend KateFrom One More Thing, tagged me to do this MEME. Which is my first. ;)

Huh doesn't sound too interesting. ;) I promise the book is good though, its one of the ones I got in the box my SIL sent me before Christmas.

Job fair update

The job fair was crazy busy. All 30 something schools from the local district were represented, and I think I only manged to make it to 6 of them. Whats funny about that is that I got there at 9:05, and left at 12:20, and the fair was "from" 9-12.

There had to be over 600 teacher candidates there (and that is probably a low estimate), everything from teachers with more experience than I have (who are teaching for other districts and have a contract right now), to teachers that don't graduate until May. Each school did their own screening interview, which took anywhere between 15-30 minutes, not counting the wait time that you waited to be interviewed.

There are a couple of schools that need someone soon, as they have had a teacher have to leave recently. There are a couple of schools that know right now that they need an ESOL teacher for next year (my specialty). Then there are the schools that already know that they DO NOT have anything for next year, unless something strange happens. Sigh.

I made a point to stop in the ESOL directors "room" and got to talk directly to her. She told me (and I know everyone that stopped by) which schools were going to have ESOL positions for the fall, and then said to make sure that I stopped in those rooms. The last three of those I only had enough time to stop by and drop off my resume because it was 12, and the fair ended at 12. One of the schools that has an ESOL position though is the one that I am going to be long term subbing at, so hopefully that gives me an in there.

The bright side is that I stopped by and talked with the principal at the school where I am scheduled to do a long term sub at the end of the month, like he asked me to, and he asked if I would be interested in doing a different long term sub position that starts as early as this coming week. I told him heck yes, (ok not quite like that), but explained that my background check was not back yet. He assured me that that was fine, because he could put a rush on that if need be.

So there is that.

Other than that Jerry and I went grocery shopping today and got enough groceries to last us for at least 2 weeks. We went online and looked at the weekly ad and then went to Win-Dixie because they had the best deals on what we will use. Lots of BOGO deals on stuff we use, so it was worth the little bit of an extra drive to get there. (Its over by Lowes) We saved $57 by using our rewards card.

When we got home from shopping, I had to run in the house, grab my laptop on the fly and start tutoring right away. I had volunteered to teach today for 4 hours, and got scheduled for all 4, with the last hour (the 2 pm one) being added at 1pm. Good thing I thought ooo I had better check to see that they didn't add that 2 pm session and called home to have Kelsey look at my email.

If you haven't been by Confessions of a CF Husband to read the story that has touched me yet, do so. There is a cute picture of Nathan doing Kangaroo care with Gwyneth from Thursday (I think), but there is a picture of him with their pug as puppy for perspective.

When I think of this family I remember friends who lost their lives too young due to accidents, who's families made the decision (or they themselves had made the decision when they got their licenses) to be organ donors, and it makes me smile to remember the gift of life that they gave, when they lost theirs. I remember at a memorial service for a young friend when I was 18, the pastor that spoke, spoke of not feeling sad for him, because he lived on in the lives that he saved by his death. The pastor said that this didn't only refer to Jesus in this case but also to Colin, and those words soothed so many of us, that were devastated by the loss of our friend. As I read Tricia's journey towards her transplant (and Alice's since, hers) I remember Colin and Matthew, and I think of the recipient's of their organs and how they are alive because of their deaths. That makes my heart smile, I still miss my friends, but it is ok.

Job fair tomorrow

The school district here has a job fair tomorrow morning. I could really use some positive thoughts and prayers for success in being considered and offered a job for next school year.


I also need prayers and positive thoughts for my fingerprints to hurry up and clear so I can substitute. I have had calls every day this week to work, but my paperwork hasn't cleared, so I have had to turn them down. Talk about adding fuel to the stress fire.

We have had no luck getting DH's order amended from the great cross-training fiasco and we are so broke I am not sure how we are going to pay daycare or get groceries for the next 2 weeks. At least if I know I have a job for the fall, I can find a way to make it through till August. Right now I am working every hour they will give me at Lowes, and my tutoring online, and am ready to sub as soon as my paperwork clears, trying to bring in enough money for us to eat. I know that sounds dramatic, but it is quite literally where we are at. I don't think we have ever been this bad off. I bawled all the way home from work tonight just thinking about how bad it is right now.

So if anyone has any extra prayers, and positive thoughts they can throw this way, I could sure use them.

Stress, lots of stress

I am in a bad mood tonight. Just stressed out beyond belief, and everything is ticking me off for some reason.

Tomorrow morning is the job fair for the local school district. Wish me luck, I need it.

The pictures are just precious. Also Tricia looks to be back on the transplant list as soon as Monday, which is just awesome news. Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things Patty is thinking about 1.Finding a teaching job for the fall. 2. Scared to death that I won't find a job. 3. Hoping that DJ doesn't catch the pink eye that was discovered in his preschool class today. 4. How much I miss my grandma. 5. That I wish we lived closer to my parents, brother and SIL. 6. Wondering why it is taking so long for my fingerprints to sub to come back. 7. Worrying about paying the bills that keep piling up because I am not teaching, and not subbing. 8. Worried about spending so much time working at Lowes and tutoring online at night/on weekends that I don't get to see the kids. 9. How nice it is to live here in Georgia. 10. Worried about our house in Florida, the whole renting it out, is the rent going to be to us in time to pay the bills we need to pay, how long until we can sell it and not loose our shirts, etc. 11. Praying for Tricia, Gwyneth, and Nathan, that Tricia and Gwyneth have continued improvement, and that they all get the rest they need. 12. Who would I vote for, for President, if the election was tomorrow. I think I "know" who I would vote for in the primaries, if I wasn't a registered independent, but then between the two, beats me. 13. How glad I am, that I am feeling better today, yesterday, I joined Wordless Wednesday, mostly because I was SICK!! And did not feel like typing! ;)

Wordless Wednesday

I am a mean mom this evening too!

I am a mean mom tonight too!

We have a walk through tomorrow with the rental company, to note all of the little things that are wrong that you don't notice until you have lived in a house for a few weeks. So we made the girls clean, clean, clean. Of course Jerry and I cleaned too, but with the complaining that was going on you would have thought we were asking them to clean all of the moon dust off of the moon! ;)

But hey the house is clean! It is cluttered still because like I have said I need either shelves or another curio cabinet, but hopefully they wont care about that. (they shouldn't but you never know what some people's level of clean is.)

On other news:

Alice from Living Life Breathlessly, Alice will hopefully be moved to a general ward tomorrow! Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers for an increased improvement.

On Confessions of a CF Husband, this is what I saw when I got up this morning!

Gwyneth Rose's distention is all but gone! The barium enema they gave her did the trick (meaning it helped her make a few very large poops)! I went down to visit with her around 2:30am this morning, knowing that they had taken another x-ray at midnight and hoping for a good report. The nurse practitioner showed me the x-ray they had taken at 4pm yesterday compared to the one they had taken at midnight tonight, and the difference was incredible.

Please keep little Gwyneth in your thoughts and prayers that she continues to improve. :)

And then tonight Rick from Catchin' some waves posted for Nathan this:

Tricia's sister Megan has been with her all day and reports that Tricia has had a wonderful day! In fact, she's asked Megan to paint her toenails and they're playing a game of scrabble. Sister stuff along with prayers has made a big difference.

Please keep Tricia in your thoughts and prayer for more improvement and for her to be released out of the ICU soon.

I am a mean mom this morning

I don't have to be into work today until 9, because I am working at the registers all day, and I am filling in for someone that can't come in. But I thought I would take the few extra minutes and share how I am a mean mom today.

I am a mean mom, because...

I had Jerry take DJ to preschool, so that I didn't have to go on base, drop him off, and then take the car seat to Jerry's work. Neither one of them feel good today, so I doubt if they last all day. DJ sounds like a seal with his cough, though I am hoping that once he was out in the cooler air, and his zyrtec kicks in it will go away.

I am a mean mom, because...

I made Natalie clean up the bathroom this morning so that there was nothing in there for Roo to destroy. We use the bathroom as a kennel right now for Roo, and she has managed to get a hold of a couple of things the last couple of days.

I am a mean mom, because...

I made Kelsey WALK to school, after making her walk home yesterday after school. It is about 1 1/2 miles to her school from the house. Yes, I was awake, and dressed (not ready for work dressed, but sweats dressed), and I still made her walk. It does her good, she just kept putting it off in hopes it would be late enough that I would have to take her. Um didn't work.

I am a mean mom, because...

I made the girls clean, really clean the house last night. I "made" them actually do their chores properly last night, which meant doing all of the dishes, wiping off the counters, sweeping and mopping the floor (mopping because it needed it).

I am a mean mom, because...

I told the girls that today they have to do their homework before they go off to the park to play with the neighborhood kids.

I am a mean mom, because...

I made sure Natalie had her school id, bathroom pass, homework and Saxophone before she walked out the door this morning. Oh and I made sure that both she and Chris (the neighbor girl) had eaten something before they left.

Baby Tristan

Just another Manic Monday

It was one of those Mondays around here today.

Work was work. Not bad, but not all excitement and fun either. My favorite "overheard" conversation at the cash registers today went something like this:

"So K, Why were you late this morning?"

"There was an inch of ice on my windshield, and I didn't have a scrapper."

"It wasn't that cold at my house this morning, we only had a light frost."

"Oh well, it was at my house, it was 15 last night."

"Um, where do you live again?"



"Blankety blankety blank" (honestly I have no clue what she said).

"WOW thats like 1/2 mile from my house! I am soooo amazed that it got that cold only a half mile away, when my thermostat outside my house said the low last night was 32! Must have been some direct Arctic Blast right on your house!"

Insert lots of blushing and rolling of eyes here.

Then the second person said "I would work on that reason for being late, before you talk with the MOD, because I don't think that one is going to fly."

I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud, because really I don't think they knew I could hear their conversation.

DJ did not want to go to school this morning. So much so that we had crying and screaming before he even left the house. Jerry called after he dropped him off, and said that kid has as many arms as a octopus when he doesn't want to go somewhere. Then when he picked him up he was having a moment too. I really hope that he wasn't that way all day.

Does anyone want two teenage girls? Or I guess I should say one teenager, and one almost teenager? Talk about hormones and crying all over chores tonight.

Gwyneth is still about the same. She did have an enema, which did produce some results! However there is still some swelling. So this afternoon they are going to do a barium enema in radiology, which will pinpoint any blockage. Doesn't sound like fun, and is more "invasive" (according to her nurse), but will hopefully give some answers. I know you'll pray.

Tricia is still in ICU. The stresses of everything in the past 3 weeks are being tough on her right now. It's (stress, baby, meds, hormonal changes, ICU, surgery, etc.) all ganging up on her. Her mom and dad, as well as Nathan are with her. She desperately needs some good sleep. Thanks for your prayers for her continued healing.

Alice from Living Life Breathlessly is doing great! Reports tonight say that she is eating well, and getting stronger. Please pray that she continues to do so!

URGENT PRAYERS
I would like to ask all of my blog-reading praying friends if you would please pray for my best friend Heather's son, Hudson (age 5) He was admitted to the hospital this morning via the ER. He tested positive for Influenza B last week. He's been running a fever of 102F- 104F and has become dehydrated. Tests at the hospital also revealed double pneumonia. He will be in the hospital (for a couple days) being re-hydrated via i.v. and will have constant breathing treatments. I went up to the hospital earlier today to pray with Heather and Hudson and the poor little guy is so scared because he doesn't understand all that is going on. PLEASE PRAY for God's healing. Give them all peace and rest. Thanks in advance.

And one last prayer request, this time a semi-personal one. D from work's cousin is still in a coma from his stroke last week, and they were going to do another surgery this afternoon because he was seizing again/still. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sunday, not quite super Sunday, but Sunday indeed

It is now almost 8 pm, and I am still in my pajamas. How is that for a lazy Sunday?

Now I wouldn't really call today lazy though. It was spent hanging pictures, emptying boxes, rearranging kids rooms, going through toys and books.

The garbage men will probably hate me again come Tuesday. There are boxes upon empty boxes out by the road waiting to be collected. Of course the pile is smaller than yesterday when we had put out some older furniture that we didn't need, and people have come along and asked if they could have them. And I am sure that it will get even smaller before Tuesday from people that need boxes for moving that stop by and pick some up. I know I could probably have listed them on Craigslist or Freecycle, but honestly that sounded like more hassle than it was worth, and I figure that last time we put out this many boxes I think the garbage men only picked up 5.

I have most of the pictures up on the walls. There are a few that I can't find, but they are decorations type of pictures, so nothing too bad. There are a few things that I am not hanging up this time, and there are some things from my Grandma's house that I got, that I didn't hang up before that I have now.

We got DJ's room arranged and I went through all of his toys and books, washing and packing up the ones that he has out grown. I know where they are going, along with blankets and his first Christmas outfits, but I have to wait a few more weeks before I spill the news, because I promised. Not even the girls know. :evilgrin: But knowing where the stuff is going, and knowing that it is going to someone that I know and love made it that much easier to pack it all up. Because I admit giving up his baby stuff, knowing he is my last baby was tough, and I put it off, and put it off. Now I know why I put it off. :)

Going through all of the boxes was tough today. came home from the funeral, and even after the trip up to see her the last time, we brought home stuff that had meaning for me. I put some of it out to be seen every day, and others of it, we just never found the perfect spot for it. My curio cabinet here is over flowing, because I have put so much of it in there (we need shelves, or another curio), but I want to be able to see it every day, and remember the love that I had for my Grandma.

The one that really got me in tears was the last of my Grandma's Duck Glasses. It only holds maybe 6 ounces and every morning Grandma would serve orange juice, and on the weekends we had Cherry-go-round. Just seeing that glass today made me be able to smell the Cherry-go-round.

Here is the recipe for Cherry-go-round

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F to 115 degrees F)
1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F to 115 degrees F)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
4 1/2 to 5 cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:
2 cans (16 ounces each) pitted tart cherries, well drained
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans

For the Icing:
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons milk

RECIPE METHOD

In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add warm milk, sugar, butter, salt, egg and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.

Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Line two baking sheets with foil and grease well; set aside. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Roll each portion into a 14-in. x 7-in. rectangle. Spread cherries over dough to within 1/2 in. of edges. Combine the flour, brown sugar and pecans; sprinkle over cherries.

Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seams and tuck ends under. Place seam side down on prepared baking sheets; pinch ends together to form a ring. With kitchen scissors, cut from outside edge two-thirds of the way toward center of ring at 1-in. intervals. Separate strips slightly and twist to allow filling to show. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks. Combine icing ingredients; drizzle over warm coffee cakes.

I don't think grandma did it as a jelly roll, if I remember correctly she did it in a cake pan and cut slits in it. I think I am going to email my mom for the recipe that she has.

If you could keep Nathan, Tricia, and Gwyneth in your thoughts and prayers. They are having some rough days, mentally right now it sounds like. I am praying that they continue to do well physically, and improve every day.

Job fair update

So this morning I went to a teacher job fair in the next county over. There were 6 of the school districts that are within 40 miles or so of that town represented. Except for our school district, because they have their own job fair next weekend.

I woke up a little late, and hadn't printed off my resumes to take, so I didn't get up there until about 10:45. Which wasn't a big deal.

After signing in at the main table, I went around and talked to a couple of the districts and a couple of the schools.

Its been 14 years since I have attended one of these, so I really didn't know what to expect. I didn't know if they would all be in the gym, and you just handed them your resumes, or how it worked. How they did it was each district had their own hallway of the high school, where the fair was held. Then each school had their own room. You could look at each schools information tables, and then go in and talk to the administrator or one of the teachers (depended on the school, which).

One school district you filled out the paper application and then you could talk to the administrators. There was a line about 15 people long there so I said I would come back.


Then I went into the hallway that had the middle and high schools from the town's district.

And then...


We have success!

I was offered a contingency contract for one of the middle schools that is about 20 miles from the house. I asked if I could come home and talk to Jerry about it, and if I could come and see the school first. I learned the hard way last time, walking in sight unseen. I learned the hard way last time we moved not to do that. So on Monday I am to call the school and set up an appointment for Thursday to go up and have more time to sit and talk with the principal.

I also got to talk for a couple of minutes with the director of that district's ESOL program, and she took a copy of my resume and said that she would be in touch (this conversation happened in the middle of the conversation with the school representative).

I really want to go to the local districts teacher job fair next weekend, before I make a decision about where I would like to teach.

I also have to call the school where I think I am going to do the long term sub position on Monday. I was supposed to go by on Friday, but with DJ being sick it didn't happen. I want to take the principal there my new revamped resume, since he is the one that gave me tips on how to make it pop, and see if there is anything else I should work on before the next job fair.

I feel better about the job hunt than I did yesterday, or last week, or last month, or last year. I feel like this is the reason why we were moved here, because I have a positive vibe with this whole process. Plus I have a feeling like this is a place where we can be happy for a long time.

Tricia got to see Gwyneth in person!!! The pictures were up this morning when I checked. Go look at Nathan's blog to see the pictures from the momentous occasion. I am so happy for them!

Keep Alice, from South Africa in your thoughts and prayers. She had a double lung transplant earlier this week, and has developed a fever.

I am off to a teacher job fair in Macon. While I really want to get a job here locally, I am going to this for the experience, and maybe it will lead to something for the rest of this school year. Wish me luck!

Drag hinney out of bed, jump in shower, wake up DJ.

Who proceeds to cry: "My eyes, My eyes, I can't see!!!"

"Oh DJ you just need to wake up, your eyes will be fine."

He then proceeds to follow me into the bathroom, crying.

"I can't breathe! I can't breathe!" And then proceeds to dry heave and dry heave, and dry heave.

Sigh....

Jerry had appointments all day, so he couldn't call in to work. I call D let her know whats going on, she says no problem, we will see you Monday.

Proceed to lay back down with DJ and watch PBS kids.

Then the phone rings.

It was a secretary from one of the schools that I dropped off my resume at on Wednesday. She needed a sub. At this point DJ has not actually thrown up, so I am thinking that maybe, just maybe if I call the district office and my paperwork is back I can do it.

Not 5 minutes later DJ threw up.

Sigh.... I didn't even have a chance to look up the phone number for the district.

6 more times before noon my phone rang with secretary's or teachers looking for a sub for the day.

Which makes me excited.

The disappointment was in the fact that I couldn't do any of them since DJ was sick, and I still don't know if my paperwork make it back.

I think that there is only one decent place to eat in this town (I know that isn't true, but it sure felt like it tonight). We went to use a gift card that we got for Christmas tonight for dinner, and its the second time this week that we have tried to use this card. BOTH TIMES we have walked into a packed place! Tonight though we put our name on the wait list, and after about 5 minutes Jerry decided to have me see if we could get the curbside to go service even though we were in the place already. So thats what we ended up doing. Placed a to go order at a sit down place. It worked though and we were out of there in about 25 minutes total from when we pulled in the parking lot.

Please keep Tricia, Nathan, and Gwyneth in your thoughts and prayers tonight. Baby Gwyneth was still struggling with her tummy troubles this morning when Nathan posted. However, the good news is that Tricia has spent more and more time off the vent, which is excellent!

First off, you know those reusable grocery bags that you can buy for $5-10 depending on where you live? Yeah, those. Over on Domestic Chicky's blog, she directed us over to Wisdom of the Moon. Who has a very easy pattern to MAKE YOUR OWN reusable grocery bag! I am totally stoked, and as soon as I can find the time, I know what I am going to be making, because we have some old sheets that are just begging to be used for something good.

Another cute craft that I want to make soon is over at Island Mama's blog She put up a kid's fat quarter tote bag with instructions. I am thinking that I can use mommy appropriate fabric and make me a cute bag. ;)

One blog that I found this week that I think is just too cute is Modish: the blog style for the handmade life. Just some really cute ideas.

Please remember to pray for King JuJu's family as they are dealing with all of the emotions of loosing him to his fight with cancer. Michelle has a beautiful post on her blog today, as does Renee, on Life with My Special K's, she and the kids released yellow balloons for Julian, Lisa on Final Score: Boys 3 and girls 2 also has a post dedicated to him. I wish there was more I could say about how much his story has touched my heart.

Edited to add: I just found this post over on Rice-a-roni-ville it is a precious pendant that she made to send to Mimi oh but to have 1/1000th of the talent of some of these women.

Baby Gwyneth needs extra prayers and positive thoughts right now. From Nathan's blog

Please, continue to pray for Gwyneth. The x-ray at noon showed there is still inflammation in her bowels. They're watching conservatively right now, but it is serious if it doesn't work itself out soon. The next xray will be at 8pm tonight.

I spoke with the doctor and nurses, and they're told me that she has Distention and could possibly have NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitic) (although, which is common among preemies/babies, but can be very harmful and even deadly. It could be caused by an infection, by normal bacteria or by a plug somewhere.

They've got her on several antibiotics as precautions. It could work itself out withint the next 24/48 hours, or it could lead to so much pressure that it could cause a leak in her intestines which will cause some serious issues.

This is the first major issue, so of course, we're very concerned. But, this another opportunity for God to show Himself.

Tricia has had another good but tiring day. Two sessions of PT, and now she's off the vent and breathing on her own with some extra O2 for a few hours of trial without the vent!

Which means they should be doing her next set of xrays right about now. Please please pray that she will have success fighting what ever this is.


Life here today, was typical life here. Well except that I got to play HR because the real HR had life interrupt, which well happens. If you can spare a couple of prayers for D's cousin who had an brain bleed last night and was still in a coma when I talked to her this afternoon, I am sure they would appreciate it.

DJ had a pretty good day at the CDC from the sounds of it. Jerry does want to know why he has to wash his hands before he signs him in and out though. I figure it has to do with the different viruses that float around, and they are trying to avoid them spreading more. Anyone know for sure?

Natalie is coming along very nicely with her saxophone lately. :-) Even Jerry noticed, which is saying something.

Eventful day

Last week when I was at the substitute orientation for the county the two gals running the orientation recommended that if we wanted to start subbing as soon as our clearances had gone through, and if we were interested in subbing a lot, to print out business cards with our contact information, and resumes. Then take them around to all of the schools that we were interested in subbing at.

Since I have not heard anything about the position I interviewed for last week, and I had the day off at Lowes, today, I did just that.

I printed off a bunch of copies of my resume, and printed more business cards, then took DJ to school and ran over to Jerry's shop to borrow a stapler (I couldn't find ours, who knows where it is with the move.)

Then I programed the first of the schools on one end of town into my navigator on my phone and I was off. I did it in a big circle, because I figured that I would need to come by the house at some point for something (and I was right I ran out of business cards).

I hit up every school in town, explaining at each one that I was new in the area and that when I did the substitute orientation last week they recommended that we go around, yadda yadda.

I talked to several of the principals, including the principal that I interviewed with in September. Nothing to formal, or longer than a couple of seconds, more its great to meet you, hope to see you subbing a lot.

I had 5 or 6 of the schools where they reminded me about the job fair in a couple of weeks. I have already requested the morning off at Lowes. Smart cookie, I am. ;)

I had a couple of schools very excited to have someone new to call.

I had a couple of very strange looks, like "sure, ok, unhuh they recommended that you bring this by."

And I had one school (the last one I stopped at), where as I was getting in my car the gal I gave the information too came running out to my car. She asked me if I would be interested in doing a long term sub for a 5th grade class. So I went back in and talked with her for a while, then talked to the principal for a while (who gave me some tips for getting hired in the district, and said that he wants me to make sure that I find him at the job fair.) Then the gal from the front desk (the one that chased me down) showed me around the school. She was trying to find the teacher, but the teachers must have left for the day as soon as school was out. So crossfingers unless something goes funky I have a long term sub position starting in February.

Overall, I think it was a pretty successful day, I now know where all of the local schools are located, or at least a general idea. Plus I have for the most part met the person who sits at the front desk of the school.

I did decide not to drive to the outlying schools. I am hoping that I will get enough days locally that I wont have to drive to those schools. If I do, I do and that is great too, but there are a lot of schools within a 25 mile radius of the house that I think I will be ok, and there is nothing saying that the next time I have a day off I can't run out there.

Hopefully I will start getting calls to substitute as soon as my paperwork goes into the system. I need to rework my resume, with the tips the Mr. L (the principal) gave me, before the job fair, and I want to do it tonight while they are fresh in my mind.

DJ had a rough day. He did not want to go to school this morning. There were tears before we even left the house, and more tears when we got to school. Ms. D said that he didn't want to take a nap at rest time and there were tears then too, so she ended up sitting with him for a while. However if he napped it means we will have a late night again.

Natalie was sent home from school early with a headache. Jerry went and picked her up. He said she was flushed and miserable when he picked her up. When I came by the house she was sound asleep. She said she feels better now, but plans on taking some allergy medicine and going to bed early (mom told her she is).

Kelsey came home today and said that the talent show that she is performing in with her friend from school is March 1st.

Today over on Confessions of A CF Husband, Nathan posted a questions and answers segment, where he attempts to answer a lot of questions that they have gotten lately. I hope that if you take a few minutes to stop by and check on Tricia and Gwyneth's progress (Gwyneth is 2 weeks old today, with no major complications!!! Nathan posted pictures to celebrate) that if you have any questions you first go "back in time" and read past posts, because many of the questions that I have thought of, he has already addressed. Or else you can check Tricia's website and read things from her point of view.

Most of all I hope that you keep this amazing family in your thoughts and prayers. They continue to amaze me every day, as they not only are concerned for themselves (and they have the right at this point IMO to be totally selfish and only think of themselves) but they ask for prayers for other premature babies (and their families), other CF patients, and other people that have touched their lives.

Long day

DJ and I had a long day. We got up early, and headed out the door. We arrived at the CDC at 7:15 (with a crying DJ, saying NO NO NO, I don't want to go to school, I want to go back to BED! If only he would cry I want to go to bed at 7 pm instead of 7 am. sigh) By the time I left the CDC 8 minutes later, he was happily going with Ms. Tracy to explore the sand table, and all was fine in the world.
I then drove to Lowes and worked the rest of the day away.
I got to work a register today, and customer service. :) The head cashier asked what I knew, and what I didn't know and I told her that I knew how to do most of the cashier stuff, but would need a refresher course on customer service, as some of the things we didn't have down in Crestview, and some of the stuff, well I just never did.
I also got to help put schedules in the computer. :) That was actually fun, because I could "see" how things worked and why they work out the way they do with matrixes and such, and why some times the best laid plans go awry. It is interesting though that here, if you are part time, at no point will you be scheduled for more than 30 hours. Period. In Crestview, we broke that almost every week, or at least my schedule did. Most weeks I was scheduled for 35 hours especially the last couple of weeks I was there. Maybe once spring comes the rule here will change too?
So far everyone is very friendly at the store. I started out yesterday scared to death, but they are very welcoming, and very helpful. I think it will take me a long time to figure out where every thing is in the store. I kid you not, the store is at least double the size, if not quadruple the size of the store in Crestview.

DJ had a good day, if a long day, at school. He said he had fun, and made new friends. He was working on puzzles when I picked him up, and he says that they read books, sang songs, and played outside. Jerry was going to pick him up, but I had the car seat. I am not sure if there is a place that we can leave them at the CDC. I think Jerry is going to drop him off tomorrow (or I hope he is), and at least if I want to go pick him up, after Jerry takes him, Jerry's work is right there close.

Kelsey had her first "seventh" period today. This is the class where they do the play rehearsals and what not. She says that it went well. Next up for her is working on a poetry anthology. Oh joy of joys.

Natalie is in practicing her Saxophone. The band here is behind where her band in Florida was before Christmas. Which for us is a good thing, since after her surgery she was always a bit behind the curve. I almost wonder though if her teacher/director in Florida wasn't pushing them a bit to hard, since the band here is about 40 lessons behind the band there. But I will admit they sounded great at the Christmas concert.

Lawrenson's Best Day Ever!

Four things have made this the Best Day Ever!

1) Gwyneth Rose made a POOP! Sometime this morning! They say they'll begin feeding her soon!

2) Gwyneth Rose had another head/brain ultrasound this morning, and there is NO BLEEDING!!

3) The same Transplant Doctor who told us two weeks ago that it would be at least 2-3 months before Tricia would be well enough for the double lung transplant list told us today that it could be A MATTER OF WEEKS instead!!!

4) Gwyneth Rose is two weeks old today! Two whole weeks without ANY MAJOR COMPLICATIONS!!!!
Nathan has posted some beautiful pictures of both of his girls. Please pray that the girls continue to well, and that Tricia is able to be put on the transplant list soon!

Nathan asked for prayers for Alice A young woman in South Africa with CF who had a double lung transplant today. The posts from her younger sister on her blog indicate that she is doing very well. Please add her to your prayers.

First day at work and a fat lip

Today was my first day at work for the new store (new to me). The store is huge, and it is going to take a while to get adjusted to it. But as first days go it was a pretty good day.

DJ and Natalie were rough housing when I got home from work, and DJ ended up with a fat lip.

I am not sure how well you can see it in this picture, but he has one, and he told me to take a picture.

I am tired, the girls had a friend stay the night last night, against my better judgment (I said No, dad said yes) and managed to wake me up about a million times before I came out and chewed them out and told them to go to bed.

DJ was supposed to start preschool here today, or so I thought. But with the holiday the CDC was closed. I just wish I would have known this before I woke him up and dragged him out of the house at 7 am. I know, I know, I "should" have known, since the CDC is on base, but last week when we were there everyone said they would see us Monday, and its Monday. Plus when we drove by yesterday there was no sign up on the door saying they would be closed.


On Nathan's blog last night He posted that Gwyneth's CF screening came back negative, and that she is almost down to room air percentages of oxygen going through her vent. :) Tricia is getting stronger, with a few scares with her trac and coughing.

Sunday again

I can safely say I think that this move has been a success. The girls are adjusting nicely, and have a friend from the neighborhood staying the night tonight. The only strange thing is that the girl's parents didn't call, or come by. I hope they really know where she is. The girls went with her to get her stuff, and Natalie walked back down to her house a bit ago, because they had forgotten something. But I still find it a little odd. Jerry offered to call or go to their house and was told it was ok.

DJ doesn't quite know how to act, because they are not paying attention to him, but he will survive.

I start work tomorrow, and DJ starts school (I think, there is no sign saying they will be closed for the holiday, so we will go in the morning and see.)

If you are following the story of Tricia, Nathan and Baby Gwyneth Nathan explains in today's posts how they learned of Tricia's pregnancy, and their choices that they made in the last 25 weeks. There have been no health updates this weekend so I am praying that this is good.

So with that I am getting off of here for the night.

Our Washing Machine Eats Socks

We have a Maytag front load washer and since the move the thing has been leaking.
We thought at first it was the hoses going into the washer, thinking that they were loose. Nope not that.
Then I noticed that the drain hose was creeping out of the drain, and thought it was that. Nope not that.
Today Jerry pulled the front panel off and cleaned out the drain filter, thinking that it was that. Nope not that.
Then Jerry noticed that it was spinning funny, or something. So he messed around with the seal, around the tub, and pulled out two socks.
Its not leaking any more... (insert rolling eyes here)

This morning was spent cleaning the house and working at getting it more organized. Jerry and I now have 3 of the 4 antique dressers in our room for our clothes. I still have to send the pictures of my cedar chest to my brother to see what he can come up to fix the leg that the movers broke. Slowly but surely we are getting the house put together. I need more shelves for the different things that we have collected through the years, and a place to store Tupperware. This house does not have enough kitchen cabinet space. But it all has to wait until I have a full time teaching job (still praying and crossing fingers and toes for the job that I interviewed for on Thursday).

The kids and I went up to Macon and rented Natalie's Saxophone this afternoon. The store reminds me of the bookstore from Neverending story, old and dusty, but in a homey come in and relax sort of way. DJ was disappointed that they did not have a piano that he could play, and even asked the guy where his pianos were. I had to explain to the nice man that the music store in Florida where we rented from had all sorts of pianos out, including a player piano that DJ would listen to and sit at one of the other pianos and play along with.

On the way home we stopped at Hobby Lobby and picked up some pastels for Kelsey and a new sketch pad. I drooled over several things in there, that would fix the shelving situation, but controlled myself. LOL


No new updates on Tricia and baby Gwyneth on Nathan's blog, which is a good thing, since they have major amounts of family visiting them at Duke this weekend, and Nathan's last bump said that unless there was something major to report he would not post anything until late tonight. Gwyneth's grandpa did post a couple of pictures from today when he visited with her, and then some pictures from last night when Tricia and Nathan watched the video he had shot last week. Tricia looks amazing for all that she has/is going through. Please pray that both Tricia and Gwyneth continue to do well, and continue to improve day by day. If you have not heard their story follow one of the links to Nathan's blog it is a story that will touch your heart, and it is a story that has brought back my faith

We however did lose a brave fighter today. Since December or so I have been following Julian's story. Mostly through Dawn's blog and Michelle's blog. But recently have subscribed to his care pages. Today Julian lost his battle with Medulloblastoma. I am crying for this sweet boy and his family.
Please hug your little ones a little bit tighter tonight for Mimi and her family, and send up a prayer for Julian.

Today was a pretty good day, all around.

DJ and I slept in. He played with his guitar today, a lot. I wish I would have had my phone out and ready a couple of times. My favorite moment today was when he was sitting on the living room floor singing/jamming Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and when I say jamming I mean jamming. When he was done with his performance, he jumped up and took a bow, yelling "Thank you, Thank you very much!" Little ham.

I finally set up a plan with the HR at the Lowes here, and actually got to meet with her for a couple of minutes. I go in on Monday and start working with her in her office for a week or two, then we will figure out my schedule of availability from there.

I dropped off my thank you note to the school where I did my interview at yesterday. I am hoping and praying for a positive outcome from the interview, but know that I have a very slim chance, if any. If you have a couple of spare positive thoughts for me, I would appreciate it.

We went out to lunch with Jerry. It was pretty good, the only bad part was when we went to move the table closer to DJ and I, Jerry's drink split all in his hat and on his jacket. Oops

Kelsey got signed up for 7th period, so she can be part of the crew for the play. I am not sure what happened to her being part of the ensemble, but what ever. Plus she and her friends have signed up to be part of the talent show that the school is having in March.

Natalie came home from school all excited about a "Rock All Night" fund raiser that her band will be doing in March. Look for announcements coming to an email near you. ;)

The girls seem to be adjusting to this move a lot better than they did when we moved from England to Florida. The weeks leading up to the move were more traumatic this time, but the end result has been easier, so I will take it.


Tricia and Gwyneth both seem to be doing well. There is a possibility of lung infections that they are running tests on, please pray that they come back clean. Tricia can not meet Gwyneth with out the all clear on these tests. Nathan has posted pictures of Tricia on his blog, there are also some new pictures of Gwyneth.

The only negatives that came out of today were:

Roo got out, when DJ got over excited about leaving the house to go to Lowes and opened the door. She was a stinker and did not want to come back to the house.

I cut the bottom of my foot open. AND IT HURTS!! I know poor is me... ;)
