On July 7th and 8th, 2011, 150 members of the public have been invited to attend a special tweetup at Kennedy Space Center to witness the final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Mrs. Patricia Cleveland a fourth grade teacher at Jeffersonville Elementary School in Twiggs County Georgia and twitter user, applied and was accepted for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Mrs. Cleveland plans on using this opportunity as a professional develpment tool to use in her classroom for the years to come. The event will provide Mrs. Cleveland the opportunity to speak with shuttle technicians, engineers, astronauts, and managers, and to experience the launch of space shuttle Atlantis to the International Space Station. Also Mrs. Cleveland will have to opportunity to work and meet with fellow educators, scientists, computer programers, social media specialists, and people from many walks of life that she feels will give her feedback and experiences to share with her classes.
Mrs. Cleveland will travel to Florida July 6th through July 9th, for this experience. The NASATweetup group will have the opportunity to meet many people involved with the space program and receive a tour of Kennedy Space Center on July 7th, and witness the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis for its final mission on July 8th.
